Tewkesbury solicitors Thomson & Bancks are moving with the times and embracing Twitter, Facebook and blogging for communicating with their clients to coincide with a re-vamp of their website.
The T&B blog covers a range of legal issues including personal injury, tax and inheritance. While the team is not able to use it to give legal advice on specific cases, they hope it will be visited by people who want to find out more about the law and their rights.
The team is also using Twitter and Facebook to write about their experiences, share interesting developments from within their industry, comment on relevant national news stories and give clients and potential clients information about changes and events within the firm.
The company is believed to be the first solicitors practice locally to embrace new media in this way.
The T&B blog is regularly updated by staff from different departments, offering readers a solicitors perspective on topical issues and current affairs. For example, the recent media focus on the accusations of bullying in Gordon Browns office gave them the perfect opportunity to discuss the difficulties faced when trying to form a case against workplace bullies. Similarly, developments in the marriage of Cheryl and Ashley Cole led to advice about making a Will.
The move by Thomson & Bancks comes as more and more people are turning to social networking for finding information and staying in touch. There are 23 million active Facebook users in the UK and, contrary to the belief that social networks are largely populated by teenagers, it is most popular amongst those in their 20s. People now spend more time on social networks than on any other online activity, including shopping and playing games.

We have been serving clients in and around Gloucestershire for more than 170 years but that doesnt mean we dont want to move with the times and making the most of the social media is part of that. Were in the middle of re-vamping our website and decided to include the social media as a key part of that. By giving people information in a way that is interesting and accessible we hope we will be able to shed light on some confusing legal issues as well as giving visitors the chance to get to know our firm a little better.
