Digital PR and social media consultancy Liberate Media has collaborated with its web development partner Best Served Cold to deliver a Social Media News Release (SMNR) service called Pressitt, which launches today in private beta.
Pressitt will enable PRs and businesses to create their own SMNRs (also known as a Social Media Press Release) and publish to an online community of journalists, the blogosphere and the general public.
The service has been designed with journalists and bloggers in mind, to make the process of gathering information for a story as simple as possible. A Pressitt release contains all of the core information found in a traditional press release, but it is presented in a more digestible format along with supporting audio, images, video clips and downloadable presentations or PDFs, ensuring all story assets are saved in one central online place.
Pressitt will enable organisations to make their news announcements more ‘social’ through social bookmarking, commenting functionality and Web 2.0 shareable features. In addition, Pressitt releases are search engine friendly so that they will be visible in search results for relevant keywords.
The private beta version of Pressitt is now open for registration and users will be notified when the service goes live. Initially, a free version of the service will be available to all, while a premium paid-for version with enhanced functionality will go live later in the year.
The Social Media News Release has been a hot topic of conversation within the PR and social media industry for the past couple of years, and we are confident that 2009 will be the year when it reaches tipping point in the UK. Social media has meant that there is now more than one way to tell a story, and SMNRs provide journalists and bloggers with the core information they need in one central online place, and readers with the ability to disseminate stories that interest them and spark conversations around the announcement.
